Statement on the Massie Amendment Vote Today
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 15, 2026
A New Policy, co-founded by former U.S. officials Tariq Habash and Josh Paul, today released the following statement
Change is coming.
A New Policy thanks and congratulates the 104 Members of Congress who voted for Representative Thomas Massie’s amendment to cut $3.3 billion in U.S. funding for the Israeli Defense Forces. While the Amendment did not pass, this was the first time many Members had the opportunity to cast an up-or-down vote on this funding. The disconnected opposition from Democratic Leader Jeffries could not stop almost half of his own Caucus from supporting the measure. Until recently, the notion that politicians would dare challenge AIPAC, or question unconditional support for Israel, was unthinkable. But this vote demonstrates that those days are coming to an end.
Americans are in need. Our children’s classrooms are under-resourced, our food prices are rising, and our healthcare is increasingly unaffordable. In the meantime, U.S. funding has paid for the bombs that have killed tens of thousands of civilians in Gaza and across the Middle East, and poll after poll shows that Americans are sick of it. The Democratic and Republican establishment have demonstrated that they are more beholden to their donors than their voters, but as even they can now clearly see the tide is turning.
