Statement in response to the US taking the lead role in the management of humanitarian assistance for Gaza
Washington, D.C. (November 7, 2025) – The news that the US will take a leading role in the management of humanitarian assistance in Gaza reflects a fundamental truth: Israel cannot be trusted not to weaponize aid, and cannot be trusted to enable reconstruction. At the same time, the American people should be wary of a new entangling commitment in the Middle East, and the US must avoid a mission creep that makes Israel’s legacy our responsibility. The missing piece to successful reconstruction and a lasting peace is straightforward: recognition of Palestinian self-determination while supporting local Palestinian ownership.
A New Policy urges President Trump to work with the international community to advance a transition to Palestinian self-governance and a UN-backed international mechanism to ensure the immediate and full delivery of humanitarian aid and reconstruction.
